The Lattice Skyscraper (set of 2) is a floor lamp by Studio Yellowdot, inspired by the futuristic backdrop of skyscrapers and neon billboards of Hong Kong, the location of the studio’s home. The ‘Lattice+’ floor lamps are sculptural pieces created using a 3D latticing technique unique to additive manufacturing technology.
Layer by layer, the 3D-lattice structure is printed in an industrial-sized FDM machine using a technique that uses the minimum filament necessary to create a rigid structure, avoiding the laborious hand assembly and complex tooling such a form would otherwise require. Each meter-tall structure takes around one week, printing 24 hours a day. Using polylactic acid (PLA) thermoplastic filaments derived from renewable organic sources, the decorative design is balanced with structural integrity and light weight to push the limits of materiality. The intricate structure is lit by energy-efficient LED tubes, emitting a futuristic glow.
