Description

Aurora is a luminaire by Catrinel Sabaciag for Onnda, inspired by the shifting colour and movement of the Northern Lights. A special Plexiglas coating produces its light effects, with the full RGB spectrum and dimmable intensity controlled by remote, app, or Alexa, Google Home and Siri — letting the owner design their own colour and intensity programmes.

This is the Gloss finish: when the fixture is set to white light, the finish reads as a light yellow hue. Colours may vary slightly depending on ambient light.

Onnda builds its luminaires from locally sourced, certified materials such as FSC-certified wood, made to order by local artisans to reduce waste and excess stock, with easily replaceable LED components for a long service life. Offcuts from the acrylic sheets are upcycled into Onnda jewellery.

Light range: dimmable, full RGB spectrum. Input range: 100–240V, 50/60Hz. Can be wall- or ceiling-mounted, connected via socket or wall cabling.

About Catrinel Sabaciag Visit Showroom →

Catrinel’s work straddles between product design, installation, and sculpture. Her multidisciplinary approach often finds its roots in science and philosophy, whilst the making, quite experimental, is oriented towards material exploration.Catrinel’s work is driven by her interests in perception and movement. The themes she tackles most are time perception, entropy, light and nature.Through her interactive objects, she designs experiences that challenge perception and visualize the invisible forces that surround in an engaging manner. This brings reality in a new light, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary. In her process, she uses a mix of advanced manufacturing techniques such as laser cutting and hands-on ones such as casting. The objects often embody a scaffolding of technical components, which is used to mimic an organic/natural inspired phenomena.
