Rotonda is a table lamp by Adrian Cruz. Inspired by the Renaissance floor plans of the villas, the light bulb is erected by two plates in crystal resin, displaying a weightless balancing act.
In the designer’s words: the three-dimensional effect of the resin, its lightness and even the smell brings me back to my childhood, when I used to play with the objects my grandfather created. But the use of raw materials has been part of my life too — my father is a geologist, so he taught me the properties and characteristics of minerals.
Onyx was used in pre-Hispanic Mexico to create religious objects and jewelry. I like to use “Mexican Onyx” because of its ancient use and the particular green nuances that make it so unique. For me, the juxtaposition of onyx and resin is the contrast between precious nature and modern men’s creation.
