The MULATA Desk is a sculptural solid wood desk crafted entirely from French walnut, combining refined architectural geometry with the raw, natural character of the tree. Its design creates a distinctive dialogue between precise craftsmanship and organic materiality.
The tabletop is composed of two mirrored solid walnut slabs positioned side by side, separated by a narrow central opening that preserves the natural live edges and original bark. The outer perimeter is precisely cut into a clean, minimalist silhouette, creating a striking contrast between geometric precision and natural imperfection.
The mirrored grain composition reveals the exceptional depth and movement of French walnut. Rich dark tones, subtle knots, and flowing grain patterns create a unique surface whose appearance changes with light and perspective. The exposed bark at the center of the tabletop maintains a direct connection with the material’s natural origin.
The trestle-inspired base draws from the NICOLA collection and has been carefully re-proportioned for use as a desk. Its open architectural structure provides stability while maintaining visual lightness beneath the elongated tabletop. Traditional woodworking techniques are used throughout the construction, making the craftsmanship an integral part of the design.
With its restrained silhouette and generous proportions, MULATA combines a minimalist architectural presence with the tactile richness of solid walnut. Designed as a functional workspace as well as a sculptural furniture piece, it is suited to contemporary homes, offices, studios, and hospitality interiors.
MULATA celebrates the balance between craftsmanship and nature, precision and imperfection, creating a distinctive handcrafted desk where the natural character of the wood remains intentionally visible.
