The Eocene Lounge is part of EPOCHE Studio’s Eocene Collection, which brings 50-million-year-old Green River fossils into contemporary furniture and objects.
Constructed from dark-stained plywood, fossil stone, and a removable linen cushion, the lounge chair draws from the layered geology surrounding a fossil before it is separated from its stone matrix. Angular planes build a protective, stratified structure around the body, while fossils embedded into the two side panels appear as traces preserved within the layers.
The contrast between the dark plywood and exposed fossil stone recalls the moment an ancient form is revealed from its surrounding rock. Rather than treating the fossil as ornament, the chair integrates it into the architecture of the object, allowing natural history to become part of an everyday physical experience.
By translating geological layering into furniture, the Eocene Lounge transforms a place of rest into a quiet encounter with deep time—bringing material formed millions of years ago into direct contact with the present.
