The Caapora Console is a console table and sideboard from Encantaria, the collectible design line of Estúdio Leonardo Zanatta in São Paulo, made in solid Brazilian hardwood. It works in an entryway, a hallway, a dining room or behind a sofa, and its shallow depth of 22 cm lets it sit against a wall without taking over the room.
The structure is coração de negro, a dense, dark Amazonian wood. Two solid legs, one trapezoidal and one pyramidal, receive the hand carved “turu” texture and support the top through a sphere turned in muirapiranga, a red wood also known as bloodwood.
The front face carries a pattern of 66 convex tiles of Brazilian woods: 17 in muiracatiara, 20 in muirapiranga and 29 in coração de negro. Each tile measures 5 x 5 cm and rises 0.5 cm on every side. They are cut and set one by one, so the grain, colour and density of each species stay visible on the surface. Behind the tiles sit two inner drawers with touch latch closing, hidden storage for keys, mail or cutlery.
As in the rest of the Encantaria line, the piece works with small sections of Amazonian timber, letting woods of different tones and densities share the same object without hiding the distinctions between them. Every console is made by hand in Brazil, numbered and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
