The PL – 1 is a table lamp by Sergio Enríquez Industrial Design Office, part of an ongoing exploration of the Paper Lamp typology. As part of this case study, a series of table, floor, ceiling, pendant and wall lamps are being designed and produced at a collectible scale.
These pieces incorporate a paper lampshade without an inner structure of any kind. Through a deep exploration of the material, a series of cuts and folds allow the shade to hold its own structure, which helps create these seemingly floating light beams with geometrical shapes. The case study began during the designer’s stay in Japan, where he encountered a wide variety of paper lamps with different applications, graphics, shapes and colours.
The lamp has a beech wood base and an upper made of “Environment” acid-free paper.
This lamp is part of a limited edition run. Due to its collectible nature, some details and characteristics might be unique to a particular piece, as each one is partly handmade.
