    Description

    Maré takes its form from the ocean — the wavy imprints tides leave in sand as they recede — reimagined as a sculpture of light. It’s created by Ricardo Costa, founder and artist at POÉMIA, where each piece goes through an intense hands-on process: walnut wood is built up through stacked lamination, then hand-sculpted to its final shape and treated with wood oil to bring out the grain. Integrated LEDs sit behind acrylic details built into the carved form.

    All wood used is FSC-certified for sustainable forestry, in keeping with POÉMIA’s broader approach to material sourcing.

    This piece can be customised on request — dimensions and finishes can be adapted, or an entirely new piece developed in collaboration with the studio.

    POÉMIA is a Portuguese brand created in 2024 by the artist Ricardo Costa. Son and grandson of naval carpenters, this ancient art and the passion for wood have always been part of his life. Discovering the capacity and versatility of wood to take on new forms without ever losing its character, Ricardo honours this raw material by creating light sculptures, defining them as "living" pieces that create the illusion of metamorphosis, seeming to change shape as we move around them. The result is decorative lamps with an appealing, modern and minimalist design. Brought to life by the mind and hands of its creator, each piece is the result of an intense artistic process that takes place at POÉMIA. After months of rigorous experimentation and research, Ricardo Costa developed his own personal technique, pushing the wood to its limits without breaking it, putting it under tension, creating organic and fluid forms that convey movement. Awakening to a new stage, POÉMIA now launches its first collection, AURORA, which means "first light" and is inspired by the river and beach ambience that surrounds the studio where it all happened and happens. The AURORA collection features different lamps with unique and timeless lines, offering exclusive pieces with an added touch of creativity, innovation and beauty.
