Description

ÄTHER is a light sculpture by TUNK, developed around ideas of collecting, storing and preserving. Drawing from the cabinets of curiosities of the Italian Renaissance, the piece places a fluorescent light inside a specimen bell jar, bringing together the language of display and the atmosphere of laboratories and preservation spaces.

The work uses fluorescent tubes described by the designer as “endangered” materials. As they gradually disappear from everyday use, ÄTHER treats them less as functional light sources and more as objects worth keeping. Held in place with laboratory clamps, the tubes are displayed almost like specimens, suspended somewhere between an industrial component and a collected object.

ÄTHER is made from custom-made laboratory glass, a tinted T4 fluorescent tube, a transformer, laboratory glass retainers and cables.

Customisation is available on request.

About TUNK I Busra Tunc Visit Showroom →

The work of architect and artist Buşra Tunç focuses on perception and experience in space. Her interdisciplinary approach creates ambient atmospheres, which need to get experienced to unfold their aesthetic narratives. Tunç designs spatial experiences, which appear like realms of light, where frequency, intensity and colour temperature fuse with auditory patterns. The composed soundscapes assemble noise, sonic acts and human voice. The body of her architecture is build through a modified reuse of industrial materials to question their normative contexts and functions which determine our everyday life. Her engineered physical structures breathe the old heritage of vast megalopolises and forgotten factory sites, creating a tension between the inside and outside to provide gateways into other spheres. The experienced realities take the audience through levels of intimacy and creative thrill by stimulating visionary imaginations.www.tuncbusra.com https://www.instagram.com/tuncbu/ https://tunkstudio.com/ https://www.instagram.com/tunkstudiotunk/
