Description

“ÄTHER” addresses the ideas of the object, of collecting, storing and preserving, as inspired by the cabinets of curiosities of the Italian Renaissance. Placed inside a specimen bell jar, the fluorescent light arrangement is guided by the aesthetics of preservation spaces, such as laboratories.

Buşra Tunç, who frequently works with items which point at industrial production processes, follows a similar path in this study. In this work, the specimen jar is filled with Phosphor and glass powder, which are used in the production of fluorescence lights. The display of the materials that constitute the tubes structurally states a prioritization of the very nature of objects.

The body of her architecture is build through a modified reuse of industrial materials to question their normative contexts and functions which determine our everyday life. Her engineered physical structures breathe the old heritage of vast megalopolises and forgotten factory sites, creating a tension between the inside and outside to provide gateways into other spheres. The experienced realities take the audience through levels of intimacy and creative thrill by stimulating visionary imaginations.
