Description

The Ancestors is a limited-edition light collection, each piece a unique, goddess-like sculpture meant to be viewed from every angle. The series was developed as a collaborative project with weaver Denise Berekmeri, built over two years of research into raw materials — clay, metal and wicker — chosen as much for their durability as for how they age over time, without any coating to slow that natural process.

Using old techniques like clay coiling, multiple cylinder-like shapes are stacked on top of one another to form three stand-alone totemic sculptures, each one woven through with rattan and shaped around light, evoking a mythical being from the past: Thulani the quiet one, Nightjar the bird of night, and Badru, born on a full moon.
