Description

In the style of a Japanese Toko no ma, we have imagined a setting whose sinuous bottom creates crevices conducive to half-light. It is an imaginary landscape whose reliefs invite to contemplation, to composition.

Shifting from light to dark when moving in front of the furniture, the action of light plays with the inner volume of these small cavities which become spaces in and of themselves, putting in motion the veins of the wood that are superimposed on the bottom curves.

Plain and veneer oak, black tinted oak structure, and matte oil finish.

About the designer

Studio BrichetZiegler

The design duo Studio BrichetZiegler, founded in 2010 by Caroline Ziegler and Pierre Brichet, built up through exchange and dialogue to make an open think tank, where poetry, materials, and forms express with liberty. Coloured, graphic and expressive, they design evocative objects, in which the material is highlighted as much as the uses. In 2015, they are among the first French designers to launch a self-made collection, called By Hands. A family of objects and small furniture, imagined, designed, and hand-made in their workshop, in limited edition. Objects with a precise and sensitive finish, with several materials mixed around manual and delicate techniques. Copper, wood, leather, concrete, paper or steel are designed in a generous and expressive way according to different techniques. Caroline and Pierre let the material express itself, they enhance it.

Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times. Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M. Organised by Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden, Southern Sweden Design Days is an annual event currently in its second edition, which highlights sustainability, collaboration, development, and innovation in design. This year’s theme, as described by the event organisers, “[reflects] on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species, professions, etc”. The physical exhibition of “PROXIMITY” will take place at Lokstallarna, Södra Bulltoftavägen 51, 212 22 Malmö from 19 - 22 May 2022.
