Mother of the Light is a sculptural table lamp by Mateusz Palucki for Palucki Studio, inspired by nature and the aesthetics of French Art Deco and combining galuchat, parchment and brass in a distinctive geometric composition.
The base is covered in galuchat, a stingray skin whose natural granulated texture gives the surface a subtle, tactile character. Its light ivory tone sets up a restrained contrast with the warm golden hues of the brass. Above the base, light passes between two overlapping brass discs with a delicately brushed finish, their layered arrangement defining the lamp’s recognisable silhouette. Parchment-covered diffusers soften the illumination into a warm, intimate glow.
Each material has its own role: galuchat gives the base texture and presence, brass frames the passage of light, and natural parchment diffuses it. The combination draws on the French Art Deco tradition, in which galuchat, parchment and brass held a distinctive place in luxury furniture and the decorative arts. Both a functional light and a sculptural object, the lamp keeps its presence when switched off.
