Mantis takes its form from the mantis insect — graceful yet formidable — translating that poise into a lamp that gently sways when touched, echoing the insect’s stealthy movement. Designer Riya Panchal of MESEME Studio developed the collection using the same making techniques as their earlier CONCHA pendant light range, building it out into an evolving family of table, floor, and wall lamps.
The paper shade is made from a specialist material blending paper and non-woven fabric, its individual fibres visible and tactile on the surface; held to the light, it takes on a warm sheen. That shade, shaped to recall a mantis’s extended forelimbs, sits on a slender, curved brass arm echoing the insect’s elongated body — the two elements combining with the ellipsoid light source into one clear silhouette. Every piece is handcrafted at MESEME Studio’s North London workshop.
