Harshita Jhamtani Designs is a Mumbai-based studio making sculptural lighting, furniture and objects by hand. Founded in 2019 by designer Harshita Jhamtani, whose background spans architecture and furniture design, the studio approaches every piece as a dialogue between material, form and craft. The work begins with material. Stoneware clay is hand-built and textured in the studio, while alabaster, marble and travertine are carved into soft, rounded forms. Alongside these, the studio has developed its own clay paste and a composite made from reclaimed mineral waste, which give many pieces their warm, tactile surfaces. The shapes draw on nature, architecture and the beauty of imperfection: a flower, a pebble, a scalloped shell, a halo of light washing across a wall. Each piece is meant to read as sculpture first, and to work quietly as an everyday object.Everything is made to order in small batches. Because every piece passes through the hands of its makers, no two are exactly alike, and sizes, colours and finishes can be customised on request. The studio also works closely with architects and interior designers on bespoke commissions and site-specific installations.Harshita’s lighting won the Lighting category at EDIDA India 2021. The studio’s work has been shown at Milan Design Week, Berlin Art Week, Dubai Design Week and at House of Santal in New York, and published in Architectural Digest India, ELLE DECOR, Surface, Dezeen, Wallpaper* and Livingetc India, which gave the studio its first magazine cover in May 2023.Above all, the studio designs for what lasts, not what is trending: pieces made to be collected, lived with and passed on.
