The Extreme Il is a wall lamp by TUNK — a homage to the once ubiquitous fluorescent tube. Once emblematic of industrial efficiency and anonymous functionality, the fluorescent is here re-contextualized as a collectible relic.
Mounted to the wall using laboratory clamps, it is treated not as a utilitarian object but as a rare specimen — something to be preserved, studied, even revered. With its trailing wires and glowing core, it hovers between utility and fragility, science and memory. The artist refers to fluorescent lights as an “endangered species”, elevating them from overlooked objects of mass production into singular artifacts of a disappearing era. Now too unstable and inefficient for the standards of today’s design industry, they begin to resemble objects destined for the curiosity cabinets of the future.
