With its subtly deformed, mirror-polished stainless steel surface, the Surface Table embodies this digital-to-physical transformation, where an idealized, tolerance-free digital model meets the unpredictable reality of material space.
Rooted in Baroque calculus, where time and space were conceived as smooth and continuous, the Surface Table draws parallels between historical mathematical abstraction and contemporary digital modeling. Stainless steel—an invention of the 19th century—embodies the smoothness and uniformity once theorized but never realized in Baroque-era material science. Today’s digital simulations continue this legacy, using infinitely pliable, homogeneous surfaces, akin to the abstract materials of Baroque calculus.
Inspired by these historic and theoretical antecedents, each Surface Table is both digitally modeled and meticulously hand-forged, transforming a single sheet of stainless steel into an object of fluid geometry and reflective distortion. Emerging from the digital realm, each piece enters the material world as an active participant, constantly engaged in a dialogue with its surrounding space, reflecting, distorting, and redefining its own presence.
