Description

Kafka Sofa extends the logic of the lounge chair into a more expansive form, maintaining the dialogue between soft volume and structural repetition. The upholstered body unfolds horizontally, becoming a continuous surface rather than a singular seat. Beneath, the rhythm of repeated metal columns persists, reinforcing a sense of weight and measured order. The wooden frame holds the cushions like a shallow tray, stabilizing softness within a defined boundary. What appears as comfort is continuously supported by an underlying grid: an architectural system scaled to the body, where repetition, proportion, and material presence shape the experience of rest.

For this collection, I approached furniture as reduced architecture: fragments of larger systems, structural archetypes condensed into objects. Stepped volumes, arches, and load-bearing forms are not quoted directly, but reassembled through proportion, repetition, and weight. What Interests me is not representation, but presence. Underlying the work is a resistance to disposability. In a landscape shaped by overproduction and acceleration,
I choose density over abundance, and value grounded in material, effort, and time. In my view, design should remain a revolutionary endeavor, not by chasing novelty, but by refusing to conform to cycles of reform or reaction. It must continue to question systems of production, value, and use, rather than simply adapting to them.

About Arbore x Cezar Moldovan Visit Showroom →

I am an architect, designer and scenographer based in Berlin. Research is central to my practice and informs both how I think and how I design. My work is driven by the contradictions between: the built and unbuilt environment, social relations, and geographical contexts. I am particularly interested in experimental approaches, from adaptive structures to low-tech building methods, that not only generate aesthetic innovations but also address social issues: Who owns space? How can architecture and design actively support emancipatory processes, rather than merely responding to existing conditions? Through architecture and design, I aim to explore alternative ways of inhabiting space, where material choices, construction methods, and spatial strategies become tools for social engagement and collective transformation.Arbore was born from over three decades of manufacturing expertise. Founded within Carel Woodworks, the studio evolved from a family-run workshop into a European producer of architectural furniture. Arbore designs and manufactures collectible furniture and interior objects defined by structure, proportion and light. Wood, stone and metal are treated honestly, allowing texture and form to speak for themselves. Each piece is produced in limited quantities, combining traditional carpentry with contemporary fabrication. Rooted in heritage yet forward- looking, Arbore transforms manufacturing knowledge into sculptural objects for everyday living.
