Ikigai is a large, handmade, gypsum illuminated sculptural chandelier by Studio 4735.

The contemporary piece embodies the traditional Japanese philosophy of well-being, inviting viewers to engage in introspection and self-reflection. Inspired by the Japanese concept of “Ikigai,” meaning “life’s purpose,” we set out to capture the delicate balance between the search for one’s purpose in life and the adversity that comes with it. The lamp’s sculptural form results from extensive experimentation with light and form, resulting in a toned-down glow that diffuses throughout the space. The piece was carved while suspended in air to maintain continuity.
