Form Follows is a dining table made from aluminium and wood, reinterpreting the forms and details of furniture that Dağdelen’s father once produced while working in Dutch factories after arriving from Turkey as a guest worker.
Growing up surrounded by these pieces, Dağdelen began to reflect on the often-unrecognized craftsmanship of a generation of factory workers whose names rarely remained attached to the objects they made.
Fragments of this family history are reconstructed through a dialogue between aluminium and wood, bringing industrial materials and traditional craftsmanship together. The making process became a form of communication between father and daughter, questioning the boundaries between design, craft, and labour, and the recognition given to those who make.
Form Follows is both a functional dining table and a reflection on inherited knowledge, authorship, and the histories embedded in everyday objects.
