Description

The Square Desk was inspired by the design of Brazilian modern furniture from the 1950s and 1960s, featuring straight lines and Indian straw weaving. It’s delicate and highly comfortable for everyday use, seamlessly blending functionality and elegance. The wood’s ebonization is achieved through the Japanese technique of charred wood known as shou sugi ban. Crafted from solid freijó wood and adorned with a drawer featuring natural Indian straw.

Amilcar Oliveira, originally from São Paulo, carries the legacy of his father and grandfather, both passionate carpenters. Inspired by the knowledge passed down through generations, he created his first piece — the Square Armchair — during the pandemic, marking the beginning of am.o, an artisanal design brand dedicated to his creations. Founded by Amilcar, who is also a film director and designer, am.o was born from his desire to craft furniture the old-fashioned way, using traditional woodworking techniques handed down from father to son over three generations. Each piece is entirely handmade by the designer himself, using joinery techniques without nails or screws — only certified solid wood, glue, and a great deal of passion. Finishes incorporate natural materials such as Indian cane, genuine leather, and natural oils, celebrating the authenticity and beauty of raw materials.
