Grid Lamp by Basia Pruszyńska is an exploration of how textile can transcend its traditional, two-dimensional role and become a structural element that comes into dialogue with light. By developing a technique of working with raw cotton textile and bio-resin I played with shadows and layering of textile that creates the distinct grid/ checkered pattern of the lamp.
The lamp challenges expectations of textile in design—no longer soft or secondary, but firm, architectural, and central. Natural wood supports the composition, providing functional support and emphasizing the contrast between material softness and solidity. An essential part of the project is the use of natural, local materials. The lamp is made entirely from Polish oak wood and raw cotton textile.
