Description

This artfully sculptured light fixture is crafted from repurposed beam wood and remnants of white marble. Each piece is uniquely hand-carved and charred using the Yakisugi technique, then finished with a water-based varnish.

To protect surfaces, the lamp’s base is lined with a delicate layer of cork. It is fitted with an E27 bulb socket and includes a 240V, E27 standard bulb. The lamp comes with a built-in On/Off switch and features a Euro-plug, though a US-plug option is available upon request.

This lamp is a signature piece from the Melting Collection, which casts a spotlight on the pressing issue of global climate change. With human activities propelling these changes, the melting of ice caps and tundras becomes a daily reality. Through the emblematic melding of wood and marble, this collection issues a rallying cry for collective action to conserve our environment.

Every component bears a tale of reinvention. Sourced from scrapyards, discarded furniture, and residues of demolished structures, these materials are transformed into captivating pieces. In doing so, they champion sustainability and challenge us to reimagine a future where we draw less from nature.

About Gábor Góbi Visit Showroom →

For Gabor, creation is a journey of discovery. He is dedicated to designing in harmony with the environment, always allowing the present moment and inherent potential of an object to guide him. This philosophy is echoed in gobi.design, where the mission is to seamlessly blend eco-consciousness with a passion for design. Gabor envisions a world where everyone equally benefits from a pristine environment, fostering sustainable lifestyles. He perceives this mission as both a privilege and a profound responsibility — the very catalyst for meaningful change. Items crafted under gobi.design participate in nature's eternal cycle. Drawing inspiration from upcycling, hygge, wabi-sabi, slow living, degrowth, and related movements, these creations persist, constantly reshaped by both gentle and formidable forces. Gabor leans heavily on natural materials, often employing traditional methods like Yakisugi, the Japanese art of preserving wood by charring. His range spans furniture to accessories and sculptures, but all pieces share a singular origin: they are reclaimed from waste.
