As the name suggests, the Off-Grid lamps by Klemens Schillinger are not connected to the power grid. Instead, a hand-operated crank or a foot pedal charges a generator, allowing a person to produce their own energy through physical exercise. Rather than passively sitting at a desk consuming electricity for long hours, one can take a break, activate arms and legs, and recharge the lamp.
With the help of modern LED technology and a rechargeable battery, the lamp can be carried and used as a modern torch, or to search for a book in the library at any time of day. Both the technology and the principle are simple: whoever gives something gets something in return.
