Structural consolidation phase and increased control of the process.

The metal is worked to develop a defined geometry while intentionally preserving an irregular, highly textured surface. The finish is achieved through manual interventions and deposition processes that create accumulations, porosity, and variations along the entire structure.

The legs adopt a vertical, load-bearing configuration, with a variable section that emphasizes the contrast between geometric control and surface randomness. The structure is not fully refined: imperfections are deliberately retained as part of the piece’s language.

The marble top is introduced as both a visual and structural stabilizing element. Its worked and polished surface contrasts with the roughness of the metal, establishing a balance between mass, texture, and tactile perception.

At this stage, the process shifts from a purely instinctive approach to a more controlled construction: form, function, and material begin to interact in a conscious way, while still preserving clear traces of the manual gesture.

Nicola Di froscia is the third generation in a family of marble workers who have devoted their skills to the family firm, Di Froscia Marmi. Young Nicola grew up in the workshop, exposed since childhood to the complexity of marble work. However, while he did eventually join the family activity, he did so in his own time. He spent several years in England and became a blacksmith. Today he runs DFdesignLab, his own venture, in which he combines the knowledge of his marble legacy and his new knowledge of metal. The result is a modern craft that fuses tradition and innovation.
