The Fardo Lamp is a sculptural light exploring tension, fragility and containment through translucent porcelain, solid oak and natural jute rope. Inspired by the wrapping and binding systems used to transport goods across regions of Africa and India, it turns the language of packaging into a contemporary light object.
A translucent, textured porcelain shade is suspended within a solid oak frame and held in place by an intricate network of jute rope. The irregular cord makes an organic graphic pattern across the surface, wrapping the volume with visible tension so that the construction becomes part of the design.
The porcelain softly diffuses the light, revealing subtle variations and imperfections in the material and giving a warm, atmospheric glow with delicate shadows. The exposed oak frame provides a grounded, geometric contrast to the delicate porcelain and flexible rope.
