The BOX-1 is a teal floor lamp from the Box-Series by Dutch designer Josha Roymans of Studio Josha, the founding piece of the series and a totem of upcycled cardboard standing 186cm tall. It is a bold, eclectic floor lamp with a maximalist golden glow at its core.
The Box-Series floor lamp is built from empty cardboard boxes collected across years of studio deliveries, packaging from BOL.com, Amazon and other couriers that would otherwise be discarded. Josha stacks the ready-made volumes to match his original sketch, giving waste material newly added value, a pointed commentary on over-consumption and the half-empty boxes that ship air around the world.
Interior surfaces of the floor lamp are finished in hand-gilded 24k gold leaf, so warm light arrives from a body of reclaimed material and glows deeply when lit.
Freestanding at 186cm, this playful, colourful floor lamp anchors a maximalist interior. One of one, this exact piece will never be made again.
Studio Josha is the practice of Dutch designer and sculptor Josha Roymans, who makes every piece himself in a converted stable on the edge of Zutphen. Each work begins as one unguarded sketch and ends somewhere between sculpture and design.
