The Encantaria Sofa was developed to make fuller use of Brazilian hardwood pieces that fall outside standard commercial dimensions. Instead of treating these fragments as waste, the design incorporates them into the structure of the piece, where their different colours, grains and densities remain visible.
The timber comes from forest concession areas in the Amazon managed through controlled and selective extraction. It includes witness wood and material from trees already approaching the end of their natural cycle. By working with small sections, the sofa increases the usable yield of each tree and reduces the demand for large, standardised cuts.
Muirapiranga, muiracatiara and coração-de-negro are arranged across the sides and back in hundreds of individual modules. Together, they form a record of the region’s material diversity without concealing the distinctions between species.
The Encantaria Sofa brings environmental responsibility into the design process through material selection, scale and construction. Its character comes directly from the available wood, allowing pieces with limited commercial value to become a defining part of a contemporary object.
