Description

“Event Horizon” is an investigation of boundary, pressure, and permanence. The title refers to the gravitational threshold beyond which light cannot escape—a metaphor for the object’s own inward pull and formal density.
The lamp is constructed from interlocking aluminium elements, then fixed with exposed screws. These are not hidden but highlighted—an intentional display of tension and technique. The overlapping joints and visible fasteners contribute to a technical aesthetic that embraces structure as language.
“Event Horizon” comes with three interchangeable stands, allowing the object to be placed both vertically and horizontally—each configuration revealing a different expression of its form. From upright beacon to grounded vessel, the lamp adapts while maintaining its gravitational presence.
A glowing orb at the center emits warm, diffused light. Its reflections unfold across the brushed aluminium surfaces, generating sharp shadows and radiant edges.
The visual language draws from Space Age design and the cinematic worlds of early science fiction—bridging a future that never arrived with a past that imagined it.

About BUREAU OF ENTROPY Visit Showroom →

Bureau of Entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by Marvin Julian Freund and Matthias Figurowicz. United by a lifelong friendship, their shared journey began in the world of toolmaking, where they mastered the fundamentals of precise metalworking – turning, milling, filing, polishing. This hands-on experience laid the foundation for a design approach rooted in structural logic and material sensitivity. Marvin later studied architecture, focusing on spatial composition and proportion, while Matthias pursued mechanical engineering, specializing in construction and technical systems. Their different backgrounds converge in a shared vision that combines architectural sensibility with engineering precision. At the core of their work lies a clear functional logic: each object is conceived from the inside out – not as a form that follows function, but as one that emerges in parallel with it. Inspired by the architectural principle that form and function are one, they create reduced objects shaped by discipline, spatial tension, and structural clarity. Their work draws inspiration from the raw materiality of Brutalism, the utopian visions of the Space Age, and the geometric clarity of ancient cultures. Sometimes, their pieces feel both familiar and speculative. A defining feature of their approach is a precisely developed construction method based on a slot-and-fit system. There are no screws, no welding – each lamp is assembled through a defined sequence of interlocking parts. The order of assembly is crucial, with tolerances so fine, they are measured in fractions of a human hair. These objects are held together by tension, friction, and precision alone – as if assembled from within. Aluminium is their material of choice – selected for its dynamic interaction with light. Throughout the day, it shifts from warm reflection to cool precision to atmospheric radiance. Bureau of Entropy creates timeless, spatially resonant objects that shape a room not through volume, but through quiet presence.
