The Falbanka Lamp by Basia Pruszyńska is part of The Romance Collection—a dialogue between embroidery, carpentry, and smithery. This piece was inspired by the designers great-grandmother Halinka’s sewing patterns for decorative aprons. Their delicate ruffles and ornate edges became a conceptual starting point for addressing the rawness of aluminum and unpolished wood.
In the Falbanka Lamp, softness is not only aesthetic but structural. The lamp’s form mimics the gentle curves and gathered fabric of an apron’s frill—translated into scalloped aluminum. By using ribbons to connect the aluminium sides of the shade the piece challenges conventional distinctions between hard and soft and decorative and functional.
Just like in the rest of The Romance, this lamp continues the generational story of craft—bridging the intimate world of embroidery with the roughness of industrial materials to create something both nostalgic and new.
