Description

This project aims to combine quality, lightness, comfort, and innovation in the Bauhaus style. The Pneumatic Chair features an exceptionally visually light construction achieved with gas springs that provide a smooth and comfortable rocking motion, making it both surprising and enjoyable to use. The resistance of the gas springs can be customised to the user’s weight, resulting in a unique and personalised experience for each owner.

The Pneumatic Chair is crafted from exceptional materials, each chosen for their quality and longevity.
The sturdy wood and meticulously welded metal profiles provide a solid foundation for the chair, ensuring its longevity. The stainless steel gas springs used in the construction come from reputable German company HAHN, providing outstanding quality and precision.

The luxurious Tuscan leather used in the chair is of the highest standards and boasts a certificate of quality trademark by the Consorzio Vera Pelle consortium. This certification guarantees that the leather is a by-product of the food industry, addressing the issue of waste disposal. Additionally, the leather production process is metal-free and adheres to the principles of sustainability and circularity, using only natural plant-based tannins sourced from renewable sources.

Every element of the chair is crafted with meticulous care and accuracy, making it a product built to last.
It’s a completely handmade unique piece. Chair based on this prototype is planned for low batch production – there will be major changes in manufacturing technology

In 2022 the chair got a Good Design Award organised by Polish Design Institute.

Metal construction is welded so that the chair has to be shipped on a crate.

About Szostak Atelier Visit Showroom →

Witold Szostak, inspired by his father who was an architect, studied architecture at Cracow University of Technology, however his huge passion for creating objects and a close work with various materials led him to become a designer and a craftsman. Witold’s creative narrative behind each creation is a subject of immense interest and intrigue. His proficiency to work with different materials like stainless steel, aluminum, different types of wood as well as ceramic, glass fiber, leather and concrete is distinctly visible in his designs and offers him a broader perspective to create unique handcrafted items that are very artisanal and functional. What Witold finds most fascinating about craftsmanship and what you can definitely observe in his works might be explained by his favourite quotation by J. Archer: “If you ever come across a piece of pottery that is perfect, you can be confident that it was produced by a machine. With pottery, you must seek near perfection. If you look carefully enough, you will always find some slight blemish that serves to remind us that the piece was crafted by a human hand. The longer you have to search, the greater the craftsman, for it was only Giotto who was able to draw the perfect circle.” Near perfection is perfection itself when it comes to handmade items, claims Witold.
