    At ALBA, flour forms the base and quality ingredient for unusually good slices of sourdough pizzas.
    During flour production, spelt bran emerges as a by-product and consists of discarded grain parts like husks. In this collaboration, spelt bran — sourced from ALBA’s small local producer in Switzerland — takes on a different role. Here, it’s the key component for a limited number of wall sconces, exploring the by-product’s potential as a natural resource for new biomaterials.

    The Wall Sconce showcases maximum simplicity in shape and joining technique, drawing attention to the raw texture of the biomaterial and its interplay with light. Adapting to the direct influences of light, tones of biomaterials appear from a muted brown up to a vibrant amber. This approach makes the sconce extremely versatile. It contrasts and complements particularly well with smooth white walls, cold-toned floors, organic or brutalist surroundings, offering a warm, illuminated character.

    Laura Lynn Reyes is a designer based in Zurich, Switzerland. Her studies at the University of the Arts in Zurich (ZHdK) have allowed her to combine her fascinations with in-depth design principles. Working as a designer for food and gastronomic projects raised her awareness of an often-overlooked by-product of food production: organic waste. Intrigued by raw aesthetics and tactility, Laura began questioning, "Can design help us understand waste as something valuable?" and "How can this value become visible and tangible?". In her practice today Laura Lynn crafts biomaterials and functional objects with organic waste, blending material experiments, craftsmanship, and design practices. At NOM.Object she aims to bring these back into everyday surroundings resonating with the concept of home & hospitality. Whether in a private setting or at a small gathering elsewhere — each piece is crafted to complement a welcoming atmosphere while simultaneously serving as a tool to open conversations about the potential of waste.
