Description

The IC-17 is a white floor lamp from the IC-Series by Dutch designer Josha Roymans of Studio Josha, tall, broad and deeply grounded at 172cm. It is the calmest piece in an otherwise colourful series, a sculptural floor lamp whose pale, matte exterior holds the form back until the light comes on.

Every IC-Series floor lamp is carved by hand from foam and built up with acrylic resin and fibre, reproduced one to one from a single sketch through Josha’s Intuitive Creative Design Method. No technical drawings, no prototypes, and a colour chosen intuitively as the form emerges.

The interior of the white floor lamp is finished in hand-gilded 24k gold leaf, a living surface that takes over when lit and gives the light genuine warmth, the kind that changes the feeling of a room.

Freestanding and among the largest pieces in the series, this eclectic, maximalist floor lamp anchors colourful interiors. One of one, this exact piece will never be made again.

Josha Roymans works from one rule: the sketch is sacred. Studio Josha carries that first two-second flash of an idea, unchanged, into the physical world.

About Studio Josha Visit Showroom →

Studio Josha is the practice of Dutch designer Josha Roymans, working entirely by hand from his atelier in Zutphen, on the edge where the city meets the Dutch countryside. Trained at the DesignLAB department in Amsterdam, Josha makes functional sculpture that refuses to sit still: an eclectic, ever-growing collection of lighting and objects that varies wildly in form, color, and scale. At the heart of the work is a method he calls Intuitive Creativity. Every piece begins as a small, naive sketch, drawn in a single gesture, holding all the emotion of the original idea. Josha then carves that sketch directly into three dimensions, cutting into blocks of foam like a sculptor working marble, staying as close to the wonky, hand-drawn lines as possible. There is no market research, no technical drawing, no computer modeling, and no compromise. Even the color is chosen intuitively, decided in the moment as each piece finds its shape. The result is bold, playful, and unapologetically maximalist. These are objects made for emotional engagement rather than pure utility. A mirror that looks back at you instead of showing your reflection. A lamp that hints at being a table without ever quite becoming one. Josha is not guided by function, so the collection grows in whatever direction his imagination takes it, moving between lighting, furniture, and pure sculptural form.Every piece is one of one, never to be made again. Interiors are finished with a warm accent of hand-applied 24k gold leaf, treated as a living surface that catches and shifts the surrounding light even when a piece is switched off. The work sits comfortably between art and design, meant to be lived with and felt.
