“GEM” is a steel coffee table with soft lines that blends two shapes into one. Its design allows basic geometric shapes, such as the square and the arc, to fuse into a modern form suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

About the designer

Opus Design Collective

Opus is a Jordanian based design collective that creates and manufactures furniture pieces and bespoke metal works. We imagine Opus as a platform that conveys certain ideologies and interprets specific concepts into the design and the manufacturing of objects, pieces, and their surroundings. Our design philosophy; we believe all shapes must evolve into forms. We develop functional, colorful, and unusual furniture that can be showcased in any medium. We work with honest materials that carry clear messages. It combines tradition, craftsmanship, passion, experience, and creativity. Our designs are based on creating new furniture typologies and introducing products led by design. An exploration of fundamental shapes led to diverse forms. From discovering raw materials, to finding new solutions and ways of manufacturing. Using steel as the starting point of every piece and allowing everything else to fall naturally into place. We are a team of designers and engineers that share the same passion and goals. The idea is not to only design furniture pieces, rather it is to set forth an identity.

Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times. Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M. Organised by Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden, Southern Sweden Design Days is an annual event currently in its second edition, which highlights sustainability, collaboration, development, and innovation in design. This year’s theme, as described by the event organisers, “[reflects] on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species, professions, etc”. The physical exhibition of “PROXIMITY” will take place at Lokstallarna, Södra Bulltoftavägen 51, 212 22 Malmö from 19 - 22 May 2022.
