Description

This chair is part of the collection Formas Curvas. It’s described as “a redefinition of upholstery through the use of only sleeves and knots”. FC only needs two pieces of foam cut in right angles, and a neoprene sleeve for each closed with only one straight seam, are needed to give shape to function around a metal frame. All cuts are in right angle being very little leftover resulting from formalistic decisions. A self developed upholstery method that requires no screw, bolts, glue, wood or any other kind of mechanical or chemical connector in order to achieve function. A simplistic approach to this vernacular knowledge where the properties of the involved materials are used to their best without the need of hidden structures or capricious cuts.

About the designer

Lucas has been making and producing since his early twenties. He founded eStudio enPieza! in Madrid, with David Tamame. His work there traveled the world and became part of private and public design collections (as London´s Royal Science Museum permanent founds ). Now, since 2012, works on his own from the Netherlands. Crafting pieces that take a personal look to our artificial environment. Using tools as humour and rawness, his body of work includes a wide range of typologies that span from boats and speakers to chairs and lamps. In addition to being a workshop maker, he also develops conceptual and critical work based on local and context-driven research.
