Cumula comes from the Finnish design house AaltoAalto, developed for the Fiskars Design Biennale exhibition Hidden in 2022, which explored the intersection of the senses in design and art. Rather than presenting itself as a straightforward functional object, Cumula plays with expectation: an accumulation of identical arcs that only reveals its purpose as a lamp on closer inspection.
Beneath a soft outer skin, the lamp’s inner materiality stays hidden, so the tactile experience of touching it comes as something of a surprise. A painted steel frame — quietly referencing Bauhaus design — is delicately wrapped in a hand-crocheted outer layer, pairing an industrial structure with a distinctly soft, textile-led craft technique.
The lamp takes a standard E27 lightbulb and comes with a black textile-covered cord and a standard European plug.
