This lamp is built almost entirely from repurposed and traditional materials: bamboo forms the structure, hand-painted Mashi paper wraps the surface, and the base incorporates deconstructed wood salvaged from an 1800s chest of drawers. The construction method draws directly on traditional Chinese lantern and kite-making techniques, translating a centuries-old craft into a one-off lighting piece.
The surface finish is built up in layers — shellac, mineral pigments, and ink — using colours historically associated with ancient scrolls, here reworked into a quieter, abstract composition rather than a literal pattern.
This piece is also available with customisation on request.
