Description

Pendulum takes its name from the weighted pendulums traditionally used in dowsing and divination, and builds a lighting composition around the same concerns: balance, tension and movement. Three complementary volumes hang at different heights and proportions, forming a rhythmic arrangement that holds a subtle dialogue with the surrounding architecture. Change your viewing angle and the three suspended forms appear to move closer together, drift apart or overlap, creating an ever-changing graphic presence.

When illuminated, the soft light emphasises the lines and volumes of each pendant; switched off, the composition keeps its sculptural character, continuing to inhabit the space through its quiet presence.

Each pendant is 3D-printed in Marseille from plant-based PLA infused with recycled natural residues, and the three finishes each carry a different residue: off-white (recycled scallop shells), beige (recycled mussel shells) and brown (recycled coffee grounds). Subtle variations in colour, texture and translucency mean every composition responds differently to the surrounding light, making each piece unique.

Colours and finishes can be customised. The small pendant is fitted with an E14 socket. Bulb not included.

About Julie Mallet Studio Visit Showroom →

Julie Mallet is a French designer and maker based in Marseille, where she develops a practice at the intersection of sculptural object design, contemporary craftsmanship, and digital fabrication. Formerly trained as an interior architect, she brings a sensitive understanding of space, volume, and light into the creation of sculptural lighting and functional objects. Her work stands apart through a desire to move away from the technological aesthetic often associated with 3D printing, favoring instead organic, textured, and timeless forms. Through a process that combines innovation with craftsmanship, she develops small-batch pieces while maintaining direct control over every stage of production, from the initial sketch to the final prototype. Material research plays a central role in her practice. Julie Mallet primarily works with bioplastic PLA derived from corn starch and enriched with recycled residues such as mussel and scallop shells, as well as coffee grounds. Her approach to materials and fabrication reflects a broader interest in creating a more local, sustainable, and emotionally driven design language. Inspired by her Mediterranean environment, personal memories, and everyday experiences, she creates sculptural objects designed to convey an atmosphere as much as a function.
