Description

Rediscovering a material as common as wood is quite beautiful and poetic to me. Exploring it through its nature and history as a living material is a meaningful approach, where listening to the material is crucial. This listening begins with the selection of wood, in situ.
The sawmill serves as a source of inspiration where the material actively participates in the creative process.

Among a multitude of local wood species and a variety of rejects, an attractive potential hides within certain pieces and their flaws. The tree in the form of a plank exposes the fragility, history, and beauty of the wood, making it a witness and reflection of its territory. This territorial anchoring of the material allows for opening a sensitive dialogue with it.

The history of each piece, each reject, their shapes, and the diversity of wood species foster the birth of an esoteric exchange with the material, an exchange translated into a mental schema of the future object. This respect for the material gives the object a personal interpretation of the material, placing it as the master of the design through the designer’s eye. The formal and dimensional aspect of the object is then guided by the nature of the chosen pieces. The purity of the object, both functional and visual, is central and allows for highlighting the material and its imperfections.

‘Bois Sensible’ aims to convey this exchange between the designer and the material through everyday furniture. The user’s perception of the object is intended to be free, allowing them to approach it in a sensitive or purely functional way. The beauty of an inhabited space is translated by the poetry of the objects that compose it. Allowing their materials to speak is essential.

About Vital Lainé Visit Showroom →

Born in 1997 in Rennes, Vital Laine is an interior architect by training who quickly evolved into creating furniture and objects dedicated to inhabited spaces. In 2021, he founded his own design studio where he developed a unique approach to design, combining functionality with artistic sensitivity. Attentive to the impact of his creations, he pays particular attention to the materials he works with, seeking to establish an esoteric exchange at the heart of the design process. His design approach closely integrates the listening to materials, modeling, and drawing in the development of his projects, aiming to create objects that are halfway between the everyday and the sculptural. His vision on materials is nourished by a particular poetry and sensitivity. Vital rediscovers common materials such as wood through a deep exploration of their nature and history. For him, each material is alive and testifies to its territory. Listening to the material begins with the selection of wood, where the sawmill becomes an active source of inspiration in his creative process. Through his project 'Sensitive Wood,' Vital seeks to transcribe the intimate exchange between the designer and the material into everyday objects. His respect for the material is reflected in a personal reading of the material, highlighting its imperfections and natural beauty. The formal purity of his creations allows the material to be sublimated and given a predominant place in his work. His approach aims to create objects that express the poetry of materials and offer a free and sensitive experience to users. His work reveals the beauty of an inhabited space through the poetry of the objects that compose it.
