Description

A formidable piece of lighting design that can also grace any space as a streamlined sculptural object when not illuminated, Taco de Luz Grande is a fully custom-designed studio edition by Studio Aristotelis Barakos. A celebration of craftsmanship and our Studio’s hands-on approach to applied creativity, this sophisticated pendant light is completely handmade in Greece, from its impressive hand-hammered bronze reflector sheet to the tubular light source inside it.

This is a new addition to the Taco de Luz lighting collection, which takes its fanciful name from its particular shape: an oval metal sheet that gently embraces and partly conceals the light source within. The main design idea is the contrast between the sleek tubular lightbulb and the handmade texture of the hammered metal that contains it, which creates a balanced interplay between smooth and indented surfaces, as well as linear and curved formal elements.

Taco de Luz Grande takes this concept to a new scale and allows top-down illumination as an elegant pendant light. Its minimalist form commands attention whilst retaining a refined profile, and the hand-hammered reflector sheet allows for very soft and wide diffusion. The object’s dynamic curvature creates an interesting sense of movement and lightness, as if floating in space. This pendant light is ideal for dining tables and restaurants, as well as receptions, work desks and other scenarios that call for concentrated, soft illumination without visual distractions.
Taco de Luz Grande features a fully dimmable LED tube bulb and is available in two finishes: brushed bronze and black patinated brass.

This lamp works for EU standards.

Aristotelis Barakos is an award-winning product designer based in Athens, Greece. An honest thinker and a dedicated maker, he works on every scale with a hands-on approach to creative problem-solving and strategic design methodologies. He was born in Munich in 1984, where he grew up in a men’s tailoring family. At the age of ten he moved to Athens, which helped him develop the ability to assimilate different cultural influences. He originally studied physics, but his aptitude in making things led him to the world of design and to study product design in Athens. Since his graduation in 2013, he puts his knowledge in prototyping and materials into action, in collaboration with a growing network of craftsmen and experts. The products he designs range from decorative items and everyday objects to state-of-the-art tech devices and systems. By constantly embracing new challenges, he creates products for Greek and international companies and start-ups. In 2014 he began working for a US-based technology start-up, and spent six months at the heart of technology manufacturing in Shenzhen, China. From 2016-2018 he worked as Head of Product Design at PNOE Analytics, a biotechnology company based in Athens and San Francisco.  In 2019 he established Studio Aristotelis Barakos, with the purpose to create honest, functional and aesthetically pleasing design that helps people live better and feel more.
