His observation, repeated across many conversations, is that a common reference to a film or a manga can dissolve the distance between strangers in seconds. Not because of the discussion that follows, but because of the mutual recognition of a memory each person believed they carried alone.This shapes every design decision. A piece needs to function independently of its source. The form has to exist on its own terms. But for someone who recognizes the reference, the object adds another layer. It surfaces a positive memory. It starts a conversation.
