Rediscovering a material as common as wood is beautiful and poetic, and exploring it through its nature and history as a living material means listening to it closely — a listening that begins with selecting the wood itself, in situ, at the sawmill, where the material actively takes part in the creative process.Among the many local wood species and rejected pieces, real potential often hides within a board’s own flaws. A plank exposes the fragility, history and beauty of the wood, becoming a witness to its own territory; the shape and history of each reject guides a kind of dialogue with the material, translated into the object’s eventual form. The formal and dimensional aspect of each piece is guided entirely by the nature of the wood chosen, placing the material itself, rather than a fixed drawing, as master of the design.Gavroche is a unique piece from this Bois Sensible (‘Sensitive Wood’) approach: 150 x 20 x 20cm in brown oak, assembled with beech dowels, lit by a G9 LED under a satin glass globe.
