The Kyushu is a Calacatta Viola marble side table, a low round table where a single Italian stone is left to do the work and the base beneath it stays quiet. Its presence is architectural rather than decorative.
Calacatta Viola is quarried in the Carrara region of Tuscany and was known to Renaissance Florence as Breccia Medicea, the marble of the Medici. Over a cool white ground, veins of violet, burgundy, and plum move with the looseness of brushwork rather than the order of geology, so each Calacatta Viola marble side table reads a little differently from the last. Every top is cut from its own block.
The making is all economy. Two panels of the same marble meet perpendicular and lock together into a self-supporting cross-leg base, one slotting through the other, the interlocking join left in open view as the only detail the design allows itself.
Round and quietly composed, the marble side table settles beside a sofa or a reading chair without crowding the room around it. The Kyushu is an Italian side table made to order in Cantù, in Lombardy’s long-established furniture district, drawn from a curated material palette of full-slab stone, solid timber, and premium Italian glass.
