The Plano Coffee Table is part of the MASSIVA collection, which explores the relationship between geometry and matter. Its composition holds together contrasts of scale, texture and colour.
The tabletop, in cast aluminium, features an irregular, organic surface. Its reduced thickness contrasts with the density and weight of the metal. Modelled in wood and hand-cast in green sand, the tabletop bears the variations and marks inherent to the process. Square openings run through the metal and are filled with translucent smoke-toned resin. As light falls across the surface, these areas shift between opacity and transparency, creating different levels of density and depth.
The structure, in solid Jequitibá Rosa wood stained ebony black, comprises a rectangular base and prismatic legs set at 90° and positioned at the corners. The construction combines traditional and contemporary joinery, with hand-cut joints and dowelling. The wooden base absorbs light and heightens the contrast with the aluminium.
The Plano Coffee Table is a sculptural and functional piece, made to order at DONÓ’s atelier. It comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The MASSIVA collection begins with precise geometries, calculated angles and loose lines, subjected to different experiments with matter. Stained wood, cast aluminium, resin infill and machined stainless steel preserve their own marks and variations as part of the construction of each piece. The ideal form is unstable and asymmetrical.
