FAQ
Is this a one-of-a-kind piece?

Yes, this Lapas Paradiso Novo floor lamp is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, part of the Paradiso Novo series by Anna Jožová.

Does the lamp come with a bulb?

The listing does not state whether a bulb is included. The maker can confirm — use Chat with the maker on this page.

Will the plug work in my country?

The lamp comes with a Type C/E (EU) plug and runs on 220-240V, so you may need an adapter or converter outside that voltage range.

Can I customize this piece?

Yes, this piece can be customized upon request, and the cord length can also be adjusted — contact the maker directly to discuss details.

What is the lamp made of and how do I care for it?

It's made from thick-blown glass, 3D printed PLA, metal and acrylic resin. No specific care instructions are provided, so ask the maker for guidance on cleaning and maintenance.

How long until it ships?

It's in stock and usually ships within 1-2 weeks.

Can I return this piece if I change my mind?

Standard pieces come with a 14-day return policy, but made-to-order or customized items are excluded — check with the maker since this piece can be customized.

Is shipping insured and does it include authenticity documentation?

Yes, shipping is insured and worldwide, and the piece comes with a certificate of authenticity.

What is a floor lamp?

A floor lamp is a freestanding light that rests on the floor, tall enough to light a room or a seating area from above surface level. Unlike a table lamp it needs no furniture to stand on, and unlike a ceiling fixture it needs no installation — which makes it the easiest way to add a permanent light source to a room you cannot rewire.

How tall should a floor lamp be?

Between 150 and 180 cm for most positions. The number matters less than the shade height: seated beside the lamp, the bottom edge of the shade should fall at or just below your eye level, roughly 100–130 cm from the floor, so the bulb stays hidden. Uplights and torchieres can be taller because they throw light upward, away from your eyeline.

Where should a floor lamp go in a living room?

Three positions do most of the work: in a corner, where an uplight lifts the darkest part of the room; beside or slightly behind a chair, for reading; and behind or over the sofa, where an arc lamp substitutes for a ceiling fixture. Avoid placing one directly in a walkway or where its cable crosses a route people take.

What is an arc floor lamp for?

An arc or arched lamp has a long curved arm that extends the light source away from the base, so it can hang over a sofa, a coffee table or a chair without anything mounted overhead. It is the standard solution in rented flats and rooms with no central fixture. Check two things before buying: how far the arm reaches, and how heavy the counterweighted base is.

What is a torchiere, and when should I use one?

A torchiere directs light upward into the ceiling rather than down into the room. The ceiling reflects it back as soft, even, glare-free light, which makes a low or dark room feel considerably larger. It works best against pale matte ceilings; dark or heavily textured surfaces absorb much of the effect.

Which floor lamp is best for reading?

ne with directed light and an adjustable or downward-facing shade — a swing-arm or tripod lamp rather than an uplight. Aim for 400–800 lumens landing on the page, position the lamp slightly behind and to the side of your shoulder, and choose a shade deep or opaque enough that you never see the bulb from your reading position.

Do you have floor lamps with an integrated table or shelf?

Yes — there is a dedicated selection of lamp-and-table pieces, and it is one of the more interesting corners of the catalogue. These are not the shelf-tower lamps sold by furniture chains but single designed objects in which the light and the surface are one thing: illuminated side and coffee tables, lamps whose base doubles as a tabletop, and sculptural pieces that read as furniture with a light source built into them. They are made in ash and plywood, steel, brass, stoneware, marble and natural fiber, and several are held in stock rather than made to order. They earn their place beside a sofa or an armchair where there is only floor space for one object instead of two.

Are the shades replaceable, and can I change them?

It depends entirely on the piece. Where a lamp uses a conventional frame and a standard fitting, a shade can usually be swapped. Many pieces here, though, are designed as a single form — a blown glass diffuser, a paper shade sized to its frame, a ceramic body — where the shade is the lamp and is not intended to be changed. Product pages describe the construction; ask us if you need certainty.

How stable are they, and are they safe with children or pets?

Stability comes from base weight and footprint, both listed on product pages. Tall slim lamps and long arc arms need a substantial counterweight, and a heavy handmade lamp is not a piece you want knocked over. In a home with small children or large dogs, favor a low center of gravity, a wide base, and a position out of traffic routes — and route the cable along a wall rather than across a floor.

Which materials work best for a floor lamp?

Brass, steel and aluminum for slim arms and arcs that need structural strength; solid wood for tripods and columns with visible joinery; ceramic, stone and concrete for weight and a low center of gravity; woven rattan and natural fiber for texture and broad, dappled light; handmade and rice paper for the soft, screen-like glow associated with Japanese lighting. All of them show wear as patina rather than damage.

Description

Lapas takes its name from a trap: the moment an insect is lured into a plant and the mechanism closes over it without mercy. The light glowing inside the glass form suggests life still pulses within, if only until the trap shuts — a metaphor the piece extends to us. We remain predators like any other animal, yet we’ve grown distant from the act of hunting itself, apex predators who rarely meet this essential, relentless process of nature directly.

The piece is made from thick-blown glass, metal and coloured PLA, using thick-blown and modelled glass, glass decals and staining. It belongs to the Paradiso Novo series, a body of work that reflects, in different ways, on our alienation from nature and the need to reconnect with its wild, unpredictable forces.

About Anna Jožová Visit Showroom →

Anna Jožová (*1996) is a Czech artist and designer who works with glass on the border between free art and design. In 2023 she graduated from the Master's programme at the Glass Studio under the supervision of Professor Rony Plesl at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague. Between 2016 and 2017, she studied in the Ceramic Design Studio under Antonín Tomášek at the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. Anna has been studying ceramics and porcelain since her studies at the Václav Hollar Secondary School of Art. Since 2018, she has presented her work in many collective exhibitions, fairs and art projects, e.g. at London Design Week, Venice Design Biennial, Czech Grand Design, Glassfest Karlovy Vary, etc., as well as in a solo show at the Kvalitář gallery in Prague. Apart from his own work, he also collaborates with designer Vlastimil Šenkýř, with whom he forms an artistic duo under the name Kombo. He has been consistently working on his own glass creation and design, combining different, at first sight disparate materials and classical glass techniques to create new unique objects. To understand Anna Jožová's work, it is essential that she does not work only formally and is not only focused on the visual effect of the work. On the contrary, she always carefully considers and chooses the form based on a given concept based on her natural interest in the surrounding world. This is also linked to a desire to explore and push the boundaries of glass as a creative material and to push its technical possibilities. Experimentation is therefore one of the most important approaches in Anna Jožová's work, thanks to which she finds new ways of working with glass. Combined with the conceptual background of most of her projects, this results in works that are design objects, but the way the artist creates and reflects on them moves them into the realm of free art.Since 2018, Anna Jožová has been creating a series of original vases, always responding to a currently explored theme. Some of these series are therefore partly related to each other, thus shifting the artistic and technological approach to new positions. Her most important creative theme so far is a reflection on the impact of human intervention on the environment, which she addresses, for example, in the Gaia, Keto and Nava series. At the same time, Anna Jožová's work is able to look back with a certain amount of humour at some moments of our everyday life (the Coquettes series, the Lisa vase, Hangover) and in some cases her work is almost a philosophical meditation on the existence of man and his connection to a certain time and place (the Kairo series, Chrono)
