Side Piece is part of Deon Rubi’s ongoing investigation into industrial processes as carriers of emotional meaning. Built from her custom heart-shaped extruded aluminum tubes and solid bars, materials she developed exclusively for this body of work, the piece embeds symbolic form directly into its structure. By using a standardized industrial process to produce a material “made with love,” Rubi blurs the line between functional object and sculptural gesture. Side Piece is the latest iteration in this series and its intended to be used as a side table.
