Studio AOAO is an interdisciplinary practice combining art and design, founded in Amsterdam in 2021 by Alicja Strzyżyńska and Onur Iseri. Specializing in sculptural objects, the studio explores the boundary between sculpture and furniture, creating emotionally resonant pieces that invite intimacy and reflection.
Their approach is shaped by lived neurodivergent experience, prioritizing sensory clarity, tactile grounding, and visual calm. The resulting forms are intuitive yet precisely composed—designed to forge a quiet, metaphysical connection between object and user. Rooted in psychology, philosophy, and Japanese aesthetics such as Ikigai and Kado, their process embraces slowness, material sensitivity, and sustainable craft. Working primarily with ceramics and gypsum, they create forms that shift with light and perspective.
Alicja grew up in an artistic family, and her desire to sculpt was first sparked by her grandfather, an artist and sculptor. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, studied product design and interior architecture at the Technical University in Lisbon, and worked in design studios in Tokyo and Amsterdam. Onur began as a self-taught digital designer before studying business in Japan. His background in design, marketing, and education in Tokyo informs his structured yet exploratory approach.
Since debuting at Rossana Orlandi during Milan Design Week 2021, Studio AOAO has collaborated with galleries including Rossana Orlandi, Galerie Philia, STAHL + BAND, Freeman Gallery and FIN Gallery.
