Speak slowly so I can understand you. Speak softly because I like the sound of your voice. Suck the air out of my lungs. Whisper your secrets into my hands. Let me hold them between my fingers. Promise me. Wrap me up and fold my eyelids closed. Be here because you want to be. Be here when you need me. Touch your toes to mine. Let me steal your warmth. Keep this silence as still as you can. Surrender your heartbeat. Would you talk to my plants for me? Would you care for them and watch them grow? Did you know that my glass body is not a slow moving liquid, but an amorphous solid? It shatters.

About Caroline Kable Visit Showroom →

Caroline Kable is an American artist based in New York City.  Her newest collection surrounds the narrative of her recent traumatic brain injury. Over the course of her recovery she began writing again.  This process of writing prose has become complimentary to her love of making as words are engraved, etched, burnt or hammered into each piece.  With a background in metal fabrication and inspired by a childhood spent in rural Maryland, her work intuitively combines varieties of stone, metal, wood and text.   The inclusion of text ingrains a moment of time into the surfaces of her work, and invites the viewer into the artist's story, commemorating experiences during a long journey of pain, beauty and hope.
