The Vilma Display Cabinet is part of the Centinelas collection, an exploration of care as a relational practice: a way of holding, containing, and organizing one’s surroundings. This reflection gives rise to a series of 3 storage pieces.
Vilma is a vertical display cabinet composed of two modules: a drawer unit covered in natural woven rattan and an upper display cabinet featuring glass doors framed in solid Huanacaxtle wood and glass shelves. The interior back panel is lined with a mirror, adding visual depth and enhancing the display of the objects within. The drawers open easily with a push-to-open mechanism. The cabinet stands on four legs turned from solid Huanacaxtle wood using a traditional woodturning technique, in which the wood is carefully shaped on a lathe. The handles, as in all pieces of the collection, are crafted in smoked carbon steel and create a striking contrast with the warmth and texture of the wood.
While the weaving team carefully wraps the drawer unit in natural rattan, the carpenters meticulously hand-cut the individual wooden pieces that form the door frames. One of the piece’s distinctive features is the rich texture created by the repetition of these wood strips around the perimeter, following the contours of the doors in a harmonious rhythm.
