Description

Seemingly cast into shape, Cage Bench is made entirely from a 3000 × 1500 × 2 mm perforated steel sheet. The perforated steel draws a grid over the whole piece.

The piece takes its cues from the Wiener Werkstätte movement — often utilising perforated sheet metal as one of their favoured materials. It is lightweight yet strong, meticulously folded and welded.

The bench is produced with great care by Viennese family run metal workshop ‘Kunstspenglerei Speiser’.

Klemens Schillinger is a product and furniture designer based in Vienna, Austria. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art, he has been working as a freelance designer for various design studios as well as carrying on with his own work. He has worked on projects for Hem, RIM-Blackberry and Kvadrat among othersHis goal is to develop simple, yet well thought-out products, design methods, and ‘Do it Yourself’ recipes. This can result in almost self-evident product solutions with a sparse amount of charm, minimal use of materials, and poetic accent.
